Fall decorating: The Mantle

Fall is everywhere. 



Decorate with the falling leaves!



 Thanks to a steady rain a few days ago, the leaves are really colorful...yellows, oranges, reds, and some still green!  I went scowering walking through the woods at Mom's and we came out at my Aunt Ang's house.  I rummaged browsed through some old things and found many glass jars.  They are beautiful.  Glass is timeless...that is unless you break it! 



Use glass containers and fill with acorns, pinecones, or CANDY CORN



So, to decorate, you don't have to have a lot of money.  Just pick leaves from the woods and decorate.  Find or buy glass jars and fill with acorns, pinecones, or CANDY CORN!  Hang empty frames with ribbons tied in a bow at the top. 

Candles add a nice touch, too!

The days  nights are getting cooler and what is a great way to warm up and pig out  dine in for little cost (only 1.44 per person!)?  Creamy potato soup with BACON! It can be made quickly and the cost is minimal for how great the taste is.  A win-win situation.  So let's get to it! 

Ingredients


6 slices bacon (about 6 oz.), cut into 1-inch pieces
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
3 baking potatoes (about 2 lb. total), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
3 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup sour cream
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives (optional)

Preparation

1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, cook bacon, stirring occasionally, until crisp and browned, 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain. When cool enough to handle, crumble.



2. Discard all but 2 Tbsp. fat and return pot to medium heat. Add onion, garlic and thyme and sauté until onion is soft, about 7 minutes. Add potatoes and broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer until potatoes are tender, 12 to 15 minutes. Working in batches, process in blender with sour cream until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.



3. Ladle soup into bowls and top with chives and bacon.

Free can of Sierra Mist NATURAL at Walmart on Saturday

PepsiCo Inc. is giving away at least 10 million free cans of Sierra Mist Natural this weekend at Wal-Mart stores to introduce its new version of the lemon-lime soda, which now includes sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.




On Saturday, the company will give out the millions of cans at 2,800 Walmart supercenters, spending at least $3 million on the giveaway alone. There is no mention or links in the article so that we know which Walmarts this will take place at.
